The Pogo Dudes Movie

Nick's picture

I was going to try to hide this from everyone because I'm considering this a "rough cut" of the final product, which will be longer and considerably better, and will be screened at Pogopalooza... but oh well, I'll share it now as part of my Graduation requirements.

Check out My Thesis Website to view The Pogo Dudes Movie.

The Pogo Dudes formed as a group in the fall of 2007 and have since been performing shows that blend comedy and extreme pogo action throughout the united states, and across the globe. This movie was designed to give fans a closer look into the world of The Pogo Dudes, allowing them to see stunts that can't be performed in a street show setting. Each member (Chadd Deitz, Nick McClintock, and Fred Grzybowski) showcases their unique style in solo segments throughout the video to illustrate the diversity of the group.

The filming for this project took place over the summer of 2008 as The Pogo Dudes toured around the country. Due to geographical separation of each member when not on tour, a large hurdle in accumulating all the footage that was captured occurred. The solution was found through a mix of file sharing through the internet and the exchange of miniDV tapes through a network of friends.

A key part in the making of this movie was the selection of audio tracks. Due to a non-existing budget, proper licensing for copyrighted material was out of the question. Instead the sound track relies heavily on music licensed under Creative Commons found through websites such as ccMixter.org. Accordingly this piece is being released under the Creative Commons Non-Commercial No Derivatives license.

Additional "special effects" shots also take place throughout the film. These humorous (and often cheesy) effects are intended to push the movie beyond the often repetitiveness of the action sports film genre.

This piece will live on as a DVD accompaniment to the Pogo Dudes live show for interested fans. Additionally it will be screened at Carnegie Mellon University in August 2008 as part of Pogopalooza 6, the world's largest gathering of pogo stick enthusiasts.

P.S. - the text I wrote up there was just coppied from what I wrote for the required abstract for my thesis project
