Basic (DD Jumping)

Basic Jumping should be the first thing you learn on the pogo stick. If you can't jump up and down you probably will have a really hard time learning anything else! The Xpogo classification for Basic jumping is DD Jumping because both hands and both feet remain on the pogo stick while bouncing.
Basic jumping requires a lot of balance and takes a lot of practice to gain full control of the stick. The hardest part is just jumping. The pogo won't do all the work. On your first jump push the stick down then as it's coming up jump up. Pretend you are jumping off the stick but pull the stick upwards with your hands so it sticks to your feet. As you come back down use your knees to push the stick downward and compress the spring, then jump back up again. To keep your balance there are many tricks. The way to stay upright is always aim the bottom of your stick the direction you start to lean. If start leaning to the left aim your stopper to the left and it will spring you back up fairly straight! It takes time and practice to get full control, but it's essential for stunt pogo sticking.

Where to from here?

Basic Jumping is as important to stunt pogo as peddling is to BMX. If you can't do the basics, you won't be able to get any further. Once you can DD Jump then start trying simple variations, like one handed or one footed. It won't be any time at all before you're doing all kinds of tricks!
